Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen before beginning.

Heat the rear cover
2 minApply heat evenly along the edges of the back cover for 2 minutes using a heat gun set to low.

Apply suction cup
1 minPress the suction cup firmly onto the lower edge of the back panel near the charging port.

Slice back cover adhesive
3 minPull up on the suction cup and insert a plastic pick into the gap to slice through the adhesive perimeter.

Lift off the rear panel
1 minCarefully tilt and lift the back cover off the phone frame and set it aside.

Unscrew the midframe
3 minRemove all Phillips #00 screws securing the plastic midframe and camera bezel assembly.

Unclip the midframe
2 minInsert a spudger into the seam between the frame and midframe, unclipping it along the edges.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the battery flex connector directly up from its motherboard socket.

Disconnect the volume flex cable
1 minPry up the volume and power button flex connector from the side of the motherboard.

Peel up the volume flex cable
2 minGently slide a flat spudger under the volume flex cable to loosen the adhesive securing it to the frame.

Extract the volume rocker
2 minUse tweezers to push the metal volume key retaining clips inward and push the volume rocker out of its frame slot.

Install the new volume rocker
1 minInsert the replacement volume button key into the side slot until it snaps firmly into place.

Adhere the new flex cable
2 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable with the frame channel and press down firmly.

Reconnect motherboard connectors
1 minSnap the volume button flex connector and battery cable connector back into their motherboard sockets.

Reinstall the midframe
3 minSnap the midframe back onto the chassis and secure it with the Phillips #00 screws.

Reseal the back panel
2 minApply new adhesive tape to the perimeter of the frame and press the rear panel firmly back onto the body.
