Power off the phone

1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM card tray on the upper left edge. Press firmly until the tray pops out, then pull it out completely.

2 minApply a heat gun or iOpener around the outer edges of the plastic back cover for 2 minutes to soften the rear adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the back cover near the USB port. Pull up gently to create a small gap between the cover and the frame.

Insert an opening pick
1 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Insert it no deeper than 5 millimeters to avoid internal components.

Slice the rear adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the back cover to cut through the perimeter adhesive. Reapply heat if the pick begins to bind.

Unclip the fingerprint flex cable
2 minGently lift the back cover open like a book from the right edge. Use a plastic spudger to disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable from the mainboard.

Remove upper motherboard screws
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the upper plastic motherboard cover in place.

Remove lower loudspeaker screws
2 minUnscrew all Phillips #00 screws securing the loudspeaker assembly over the bottom charging port area.

Pry up the loudspeaker module
1 minInsert the flat tip of a spudger under the corner of the loudspeaker housing. Gently pry it up and lift it away from the phone.

1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger to cut power to the device.

2 minReinstall the Phillips #00 screws into the upper motherboard protective cover.
