Step-by-step

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray on the left edge. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it.

Heat the back cover edges
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat for 1–2 minutes along the perimeter of the back panel to soften the adhesive.

Slice the back cover adhesive
3 minAttach a suction cup near the bottom edge and pull upward to create a small gap. Insert a plastic opening pick and slice along the edges.

Lift away the back cover
2 minGently lift the back cover from the frame. Unclip the fingerprint sensor flex cable if attached before setting the panel aside.

Unscrew the upper motherboard shield
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the plastic motherboard frame. Organize screws for easy reassembly.

Pry off the motherboard shield
2 minInsert a plastic spudger under the outer edge of the upper plastic shield and unclip it from the chassis.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
1 minUse the flat tip of a spudger to snap the battery connector straight up from the motherboard to cut power.

Disconnect the volume button flex cable
2 minLocate the volume key flex cable connector on the side of the motherboard and detach it with a plastic tool.

Peel the old volume button flex cable
3 minSlide precision tweezers under the damaged volume flex cable along the inner sidewall and peel it off the phone frame.

Adhere the new volume flex cable
3 minRemove the protective backing from the replacement flex cable adhesive. Align the contact pads with the side frame and press firmly.

Reconnect flex cables
2 minPlug the volume flex cable connector into the motherboard, then snap the battery cable back onto its socket.

Reinstall shield and reattach back cover
4 minSnap the upper shield in place, secure its screws, apply fresh adhesive along the perimeter, and press the back cover tightly shut.
