Step-by-step

Power down the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off to shut down the phone completely. Unplug any connected cables before starting.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray on the left side of the frame. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it.

Heat the rear panel
2 minUse a heat gun on low power or a hair dryer to warm the perimeter of the rear cover for two minutes. This softens the adhesive holding the plastic back panel.

Apply suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower third of the back cover near the charging port. Pull up on the handle gently to create a small gap between panel and frame.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created beneath the back cover edge. Leave the pick in place to prevent the adhesive from re-adhering.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide plastic prying tools around all four edges of the back cover to slice through the adhesive layer. Apply extra heat if the pick meets strong resistance.

Remove the back cover
2 minLift the rear cover away from the chassis and set it on your work mat. Use a spudger to scrape away large remnants of old adhesive from the inner frame.

Unscrew lower speaker housing
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower speaker assembly over the sub-board. Organize the screws in a tray for reassembly.

Remove speaker housing
2 minInsert a plastic spudger beneath the edge of the lower speaker module and pry upward to release it. Remove the housing to gain access to the charging port sub-board.

Disconnect main flex cable
1 minUse the flat edge of a spudger to pop the main interconnect flex connector straight up from the sub-board. Bend the cable back slightly to keep it out of the way.

Disconnect coaxial antenna
2 minGently pry the white coaxial antenna cable connector off its terminal on the sub-board using fine tweezers. Pry underneath the metal head rather than pulling the wire.

Remove sub-board retaining screw
1 minUnscrew the single Phillips screw securing the charging port sub-board to the inner frame. Place the screw alongside your speaker cover hardware.

Pry up the sub-board
2 minSlide a plastic opening tool under the front edge of the sub-board and carefully lift it out of its chassis recess. Transfer the board to your soldering work area.

Desolder defective USB-C port
5 minApply liquid flux to the charging port anchor pins and rear data pads. Heat the joints using a soldering iron and desoldering braid to wick away old solder, then lift off the port.

Solder replacement USB-C port
5 minPosition the new USB-C port onto the sub-board pads. Apply a small amount of flux and solder each anchor leg and data pin securely, ensuring no solder bridges form.

Seat repaired sub-board
2 minPlace the sub-board back into its recess inside the lower chassis. Press down lightly until it aligns flush against the frame alignment pins.

Secure sub-board screw
1 minReinstall and tighten the single Phillips screw that holds the sub-board to the frame. Ensure the board remains flat during tightening.

Reconnect cables
2 minSnap the main flex cable connector down onto the sub-board terminal until it clicks. Use tweezers to push the coaxial antenna cable head back onto its socket.

Reinstall speaker housing
2 minAlign the lower speaker housing over the sub-board assembly and press down until it snaps into place. Fasten all Phillips screws to secure it.

Reattach rear panel
3 minApply a thin bead of B-7000 adhesive along the frame edge perimeter. Align the back cover onto the phone and press down firmly around all edges to seal.
