Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off. Ensure the device is completely powered down before proceeding.

Pry off the outer back cover
1 minInsert a fingernail or plastic pick into the notch at the bottom edge. Pull the flexible plastic cover up and away from the body.

Remove SIM and microSD cards
1 minSlide any installed SIM card and microSD card out of their slots to prevent damage during repair.

Heat the front glass perimeter
2 minApply a hot iOpener or heat gun around the front screen edges for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach a suction handle
1 minPress a suction cup near the bottom edge of the glass and pull upward to create a slight gap.

Insert an opening pick
1 minPush a thin plastic opening pick into the gap under the bottom edge of the display panel.

Slice the left edge adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick along the left bezel to separate the adhesive securing the glass.

Slice the top edge adhesive
2 minCarefully move the pick across the top edge near the earpiece speaker, inserting no deeper than 3 millimeters.

Slice the right edge adhesive
2 minGuide the pick down the right edge to release the remaining display glue.

Hinge the display open
1 minGently lift the top edge of the display panel up, pivoting it slowly away from the phone body.

Unhook the display cable bracket
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift off the metal shield covering the display cable socket.

Disconnect the display flex cable
1 minPry the display ribbon connector straight up off the motherboard with a plastic spudger and set the screen aside.

Unscrew the midframe housing
4 minUse a Torx T4 screwdriver to remove the fourteen screws securing the plastic midframe shield.

Lift out the midframe shield
2 minInsert a spudger under the corner of the inner plastic frame and lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minLever the battery press connector straight up off its socket on the motherboard.

Apply isopropyl alcohol
2 minDrip a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the battery to weaken the glue.

Pry up the old battery
3 minInsert a wide plastic spudger underneath the bottom edge of the battery and slowly lever it upward.

Lift out the old battery
1 minRemove the loosened battery from the frame recess.

Install the new battery
3 minApply fresh adhesive strips inside the battery well, press the new battery into place, and reconnect its cable to the motherboard.
