Safety

Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Eject SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole beside the SIM tray on the side of the phone to pop it out.

Heat back panel edges
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to gently warm the outer edges of the back cover for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Apply suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower section of the back panel near the charging port.

Create opening seam
2 minPull up on the suction cup while inserting a plastic prying tool under the edge of the back cover.

Slice back panel adhesive
3 minSlide plastic picks around the entire perimeter of the phone to separate the back cover from the frame.

Lift back cover carefully
1 minGently pivot the back cover open like a book, avoiding tension on the fingerprint sensor flex cable.

Disconnect fingerprint cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the fingerprint sensor flex connector straight up from the motherboard.

Unscrew midframe shield
3 minRemove all Phillips #000 screws securing the plastic midframe bezel to the chassis.

Remove upper midframe
2 minInsert a spudger beneath the edge of the plastic midframe shield and pop it off the phone.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from its motherboard socket to disconnect power.

Disconnect volume flex cable
1 minUse a spudger to lift the ZIF lock lever or pull up the volume button flex cable connector from the motherboard.

Peel out volume button cable
2 minGently wedge fine-tip tweezers underneath the volume flex ribbon and peel it away from the inner frame adhesive.

Install replacement volume flex
2 minAlign the new volume button flex cable with the slot in the frame and press it down to stick it in place.

Reconnect volume cable and battery
2 minPress the volume flex connector and battery connector firmly back into their motherboard sockets.
