Step-by-step

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge of the phone to pop out the tray. Remove the SIM tray completely.

Heat the rear panel
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat around the edges of the back cover for 2 minutes to soften the internal adhesive.

Slice through back panel adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam between the back panel and the frame. Slide it carefully around all edges to decouple the clips and adhesive.

Remove the back cover
1 minLift the plastic back cover straight off the chassis and set it aside.

Unscrew the upper midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws holding the top protective plastic midframe over the motherboard.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the motherboard using a plastic spudger to eliminate electrical hazard.

Disconnect the power button flex ribbon
2 minUse tweezers or a spudger to lift the retaining flap on the ZIF connector and pull the power button flex cable out.

Pry loose the power button assembly
3 minSlide a thin plastic tool under the power button flex ribbon attached to the interior side wall to break the adhesive bond.

Remove the power button metal bracket
2 minUse precision tweezers to lift out the small internal retaining bracket that holds the physical power key in place.

Install the new power button flex
3 minPlace the replacement power button flex cable into the side recess and press it firmly against the internal frame adhesive.

Lock the power flex ZIF connector
2 minInsert the flex cable into the motherboard connector and press down the small locking latch to secure it.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minPress the battery flex connector straight down onto its motherboard port until it snaps into place.

Reinstall the upper midframe cover
3 minAlign the top plastic midframe over the motherboard, press down to engage clips, and secure all Phillips screws.

Reattach the back panel
2 minAlign the back cover with the body of the phone and apply firm pressure along the perimeter to snap the clips shut.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the side of the device until it sits flush.
