Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen before beginning.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left frame and push gently to pop out the tray.

Heat the rear panel
2 minApply heat around the edges of the back cover using a heat gun for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
2 minPress a suction cup onto the lower portion of the rear panel and pull upward to form a small gap.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup to break the adhesive bond.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minMove the opening pick carefully around all four edges of the phone to loosen the rear cover.

Remove the back cover
2 minLift the rear panel away from the frame and place it safely aside.

Unscrew the upper shield
3 minRemove the Phillips screws securing the protective motherboard cover at the top of the device.

Remove the upper shield
2 minPry up the plastic motherboard shield using a spudger and set it aside.

Disconnect the battery

Unscrew the speaker enclosure

Remove the speaker enclosure
2 minPry up the lower speaker housing to expose the daughterboard containing the microphone.

Disconnect the daughterboard flex
2 minUnplug the main interconnect flex cable connector from the lower daughterboard using a spudger.

Disconnect the antenna cable
2 minUse precision tweezers to unclip the white coaxial antenna cable from the daughterboard terminal.

Remove the microphone sub-board
3 minGently pry the microphone sub-board up from the frame adhesive and lift it out.

Install the new sub-board
2 minAlign the replacement microphone sub-board into its recess and press down firmly to seat it.

Reconnect the antenna cable
2 minSnap the coaxial antenna cable connector back onto the terminal on the new sub-board.

Reconnect the main flex cable
2 minPress the interconnect flex cable connector firmly onto the new daughterboard terminal.

Reinstall the speaker housing
3 minPosition the speaker assembly over the sub-board and tighten the Phillips screws to secure it.

Reconnect battery and reassemble
5 minReconnect the battery cable, reinstall the upper shield, and press the back cover firmly onto fresh adhesive.
