   Power off the phone

   Press and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to shut down the device completely.

   Remove the SIM card tray

   Insert a SIM eject tool into the hole beside the SIM tray on the top-left edge and push firmly to pop it out.

   Heat the back panel

   Apply a hot iOpener or heat gun around the outer edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the underlying adhesive.

   Attach a suction cup

   Place a suction cup onto the lower portion of the rear panel and gently pull upward to create a slight gap near the seam.

   Insert an opening pick

   Slide a plastic opening pick into the gap created between the back panel and the frame.

   Slice perimeter adhesive

   Slide the pick carefully around all four edges of the back cover to cut through the remaining adhesive strip.

   Lift the rear cover

   Slowly lift the back cover off the chassis, taking care not to strain any attached perimeter seals.

   Remove midframe screws

   Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the internal plastic midframe cover.

   Unclip the plastic midframe

   Insert a spudger along the frame edge to disengage the plastic clips holding the midframe in place.

    Disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex

    Pry the fingerprint reader flex cable directly up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger.

    Disconnect the battery press connector

    Lever the battery cable terminal straight up off the main logic board using the flat end of a spudger.

    Apply adhesive remover

    Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol along the top and bottom edges of the battery well to soften the glue underneath.

    Pry out the old battery

    Insert a wide plastic card under the left edge of the battery and slowly pry upward until the adhesive releases.

    Clean old glue from chassis

    Wipe away remaining adhesive residue from the battery compartment using a lint-free wipe saturated with isopropyl alcohol.

    Install replacement battery adhesive

    Lay down fresh double-sided battery adhesive strips evenly across the battery compartment floor.

    Set the new battery

    Align the new battery with the housing recess and press down firmly to set it into the new adhesive.

    Reconnect battery and fingerprint flexes

    Press the battery and fingerprint reader flex connectors squarely onto their motherboard sockets until they snap into place.

    Reinstall midframe and back cover

    Snap the midframe back into the phone housing, reinsert all Phillips screws, and press the rear cover down securely using new adhesive strips.
