Safety

Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to shut down the device completely.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray on the left edge of the phone. Push firmly to pop the tray out and remove it.

Heat the rear cover
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat to warm the back cover perimeter for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower third of the rear cover and pull gently to create a small gap near the USB-C port.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap and slide it around the outer seam to sever the glue holding the back cover.

Unclip the back cover
2 minGently pry along the perimeter to release the plastic clips holding the back cover to the frame. Do not yank the cover off yet.

Disconnect fingerprint sensor flex cable
2 minSlightly lift the rear cover to access the fingerprint sensor flex cable. Use a spudger to pry the ribbon connector off the motherboard.

Unscrew the upper motherboard cover
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the plastic upper motherboard shield in place.

Remove the upper motherboard shield
1 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the upper plastic cover and lift it free from the phone frame.

Unscrew the lower speaker housing
2 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws securing the bottom loudspeaker assembly near the charging port.

Remove the loudspeaker module
1 minPry up the lower speaker module with a spudger and remove it from the bottom of the device.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to detach the battery press connector directly from the motherboard.

Disconnect the display flex cable
1 minPry up the display ribbon cable connector from the bottom corner of the motherboard.

Disconnect the main interconnect flex cable
1 minUnplug the main sub-board connector bridging the motherboard and lower daughterboard.

Apply isopropyl alcohol around the battery
2 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the top and bottom edges of the battery to weaken the adhesive.

Locate the battery pull-tabs
1 minUnpeel the clear plastic battery adhesive pull-tabs located at the base of the battery.

Pull the adhesive tabs
3 minGrasp the pull-tabs firmly and draw them out slowly at a low angle to strip the adhesive tape from beneath the battery.

Pry out the battery carefully
2 minInsert a plastic prying tool under the non-connector side of the battery and lift slowly until it pops loose.

Clean residual battery housing adhesive
2 minUse tweezers and a drop of isopropyl alcohol to remove old adhesive strips left in the battery bay.

Apply new battery adhesive
2 minPlace replacement battery adhesive strips into the housing recess and peel off the protective backing film.

Install the replacement battery
1 minAlign the new battery in the well and press down firmly to secure it to the fresh adhesive.

Reconnect display and interconnect cables
2 minSnap the main flex cable and display ribbon cable press-connectors securely back onto the motherboard.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minPress the battery connector straight down onto its motherboard socket until it clicks into place.

Reinstall the upper motherboard shield
3 minPosition the upper motherboard shield over the board and tighten the Phillips screws to secure it.

Reinstall the loudspeaker module
2 minPlace the loudspeaker cover onto the bottom frame and reinsert its Phillips screws firmly.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor cable
2 minHold the back cover close to the frame and snap the fingerprint sensor flex connector onto the motherboard socket.

Seal and snap the rear cover into place
2 minAlign the rear cover over the chassis and press firmly along all edges to engage the clips and seal the frame.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into the slot until it sits flush against the edge of the phone.
