Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off to ensure the device is completely shut down before starting.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole beside the SIM tray and push firmly until the tray pops out.

Heat the rear cover edges
2 minApply gentle heat around the perimeter of the back cover using a heat gun for approximately two minutes to soften clips and light adhesive.

Insert an opening pick
2 minInsert a plastic prying pick into the seam between the rear cover and the screen frame near the SIM card slot.

Unclip the back cover
3 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the phone to release the plastic retaining clips.

Partially lift the back cover
2 minGently lift the back cover from the right edge, being careful not to strain the attached fingerprint sensor flex cable.

Remove upper motherboard screws
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper protective motherboard shield.

Remove the upper shield
2 minPry up the plastic motherboard shield using a spudger and set it aside.

Remove lower speaker screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips #000 screws holding down the loudspeaker housing at the bottom of the device.

Remove the loudspeaker module
2 minLift the loudspeaker enclosure out of the chassis to expose the charging port sub-board.

Disconnect the interconnect flex cable
1 minUse a spudger to unclip the main ribbon cable connector from the bottom of the sub-board.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cable
2 minGently pry up the antenna cable head from its socket on the right side of the sub-board using tweezers.

Remove the charging port sub-board
2 minInsert a flat tool beneath the sub-board and lift it carefully out of the phone frame.

Apply flux to port solder pads
2 minApply a small drop of soldering flux over the anchor pins and connector pins of the damaged USB-C port.

Desolder the old USB-C port
8 minHeat the mounting pins with a soldering iron while using desoldering braid to pull away old solder.

Clean the PCB pads
3 minWipe the exposed contact pads on the board using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab to clear leftover flux.

Position the new charging port
2 minAlign the replacement USB-C port pins precisely onto the clean pads of the sub-board.

Solder the replacement port
