Step-by-step

Eject SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the tray on the left side of the device. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it.

Warm rear cover
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the edges of the plastic back cover for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower portion of the back panel near the charging port.

Create initial gap
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup while pushing a plastic prying tool into the seam along the bottom edge.

Slice rear adhesive
4 minSlide the prying tool carefully along the perimeter of the phone to separate the back cover from the frame adhesive.

Lift off back cover
1 minGently lift the rear panel away from the phone body and set it aside.

Remove midframe screws
4 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the inner protective midframe.

Pry off midframe
3 minInsert a plastic spudger under the edge of the midframe and pop it off the retention clips.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minPry up the battery connector from the mainboard using a nylon spudger to cut power to the device.

Remove lower speaker screws
2 minUnscrew the Phillips screws securing the bottom loudspeaker assembly in place.

Pry out loudspeaker
2 minInsert a spudger under the loudspeaker module and lift it out of the lower chassis.

Disconnect interconnect flex
1 minUse a spudger to pop the main interconnect flex cable connector off the lower daughterboard.

Unclip antenna cable
1 minPry up the coaxial antenna cable connector from the daughterboard using precision tweezers.

Remove daughterboard
2 minCarefully pry the charging port daughterboard up from the frame adhesive using a plastic spudger.

Apply flux
2 minDab a small amount of soldering flux onto the anchor pins and electrical contacts of the old USB-C port.

Desolder damaged port
6 minHeat the anchor pins and data joints with a soldering iron while using desoldering braid to clear solder, then remove the port.

Solder new charging port
8 minAlign the replacement USB-C port on the board pads and solder the anchor pins and data pins securely.

Reinstall daughterboard
2 minPlace the daughterboard back into the bottom housing and press down lightly to seat it.

Reconnect antenna and flex
2 minSnap the coaxial antenna cable and main interconnect flex cable firmly back onto their daughterboard sockets.

Reattach loudspeaker
3 minAlign the loudspeaker over the bottom cavity and secure it with the reserved Phillips screws.

Reconnect battery
1 minPress the battery flex connector back onto its mainboard socket.

Secure midframe
4 minSnap the plastic midframe back onto the chassis and tighten all outer Phillips screws.

Reattach back cover
3 minApply fresh perimeter adhesive and press the back cover firmly onto the frame to seal the device.
