Safety
- Ensure the device is powered off before starting assembly or disassembly.
- Disconnect the battery press connector before touching internal flex cables or board components.
- Do not puncture or deform the lithium-ion battery while working inside the device.

Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then select Power Off on the screen to shut down your Moto G04.

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject pin into the hole beside the SIM tray on the left edge and push gently to eject the tray.

Warm the back cover
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting along the rear edges of the phone for 1-2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Slice through the back cover adhesive
3 minInsert a thin plastic opening pick between the rear panel and the plastic frame to slice the adhesive tape.

Detach the rear cover
2 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the back panel to unclip it, then lift the back cover clear of the body.

Unscrew the upper midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the plastic motherboard shield in place.

Remove the motherboard shield
2 minInsert a spudger beneath the edge of the shield and gently pry up to unclip and remove it.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
1 minPry the battery connector directly up from its motherboard socket using the flat edge of a spudger.

Disconnect the volume button flex
2 minUse a spudger to carefully detach the volume button flex connector from the side of the motherboard.

Peel up the volume flex cable
2 minGently slide fine tweezers under the thin volume button flex cable to release it from the side frame adhesive.

Remove the internal button contacts
2 minUse tweezers to lift the defective volume key assembly out of its recessed bracket inside the frame.

Position the new volume flex cable
2 minAlign the new volume button flex array into the slot along the inner side of the frame.

Secure the volume flex adhesive
1 minPress the flex cable down firmly against the frame so the pre-applied adhesive holds it flush.

Reconnect the volume flex connector
1 minPress the volume button flex cable connector onto its motherboard terminal until it snaps into place.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minPress the battery connector firmly back into its socket on the motherboard.

Reinstall the motherboard shield
2 minPlace the upper midframe cover back over the board and press down to clip it into position.

Secure the motherboard screws
3 minReplace and tighten all Phillips #00 screws to hold the motherboard shield firmly down.

Reattach the rear panel
2 minAlign the back cover with the frame and firmly press around the perimeter until all internal clips click shut.

Reinsert the SIM card tray
1 minPush the SIM card tray back into its slot on the side of the phone until it sits flush.
