Step-by-step

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the card tray on the side edge. Press firmly to eject the tray, then remove it from the device.

Remove the stylus
1 minPush on the end of the built-in stylus until it clicks and pops out. Slide the stylus completely out of its slot.

Heat the rear panel
2 minApply heat to the edges of the back cover with a heat gun or hair dryer for two minutes. This softens the factory adhesive holding the cover in place.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
4 minPress a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back cover and pull upward to create a small gap. Insert a thin opening pick and slide it along the perimeter to slice the adhesive.

Remove the back cover
2 minGently lift the back cover straight off the frame. Set the back cover aside in a safe spot.

Unscrew the midframe cover
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws holding the upper midframe plastic shield over the motherboard.

Remove the midframe shield
2 minInsert a plastic spudger into the notch along the midframe edge to release the retention clips. Lift the midframe shield off the phone.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard using a plastic spudger to cut power to the phone.

Disconnect the power button flex
2 minUse a spudger to carefully unplug the power button flex cable connector from its motherboard socket.

Peel out the old power button flex
3 minUse precision tweezers to gently peel the power button flex assembly away from the inside edge of the chassis frame.

Install the new power button flex
3 minAlign the new power button flex assembly into the chassis slot. Press down firmly to stick its adhesive backing against the inner frame.

Reconnect the internal cables
2 minPress the power button flex connector into its motherboard socket until it clicks. Reconnect the battery flex cable to the motherboard.

Reattach the midframe cover
3 minPlace the upper midframe shield back onto the chassis and snap it into place. Secure it by reinstalling all Phillips #000 screws.

Reseal the back cover
3 minApply new custom-cut adhesive strips along the perimeter of the chassis. Press the rear cover firmly down onto the frame to seal it.
