   Remove the SIM card tray

   Insert a SIM eject tool or thin paperclip into the hole next to the SIM tray on the left edge. Push firmly to eject the tray and pull it out completely.

   Heat the back cover edges

   Use a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat to warm the outer perimeter of the back cover for 2 minutes. This softens the adhesive securing the rear glass.

   Slice through back cover adhesive

   Attach a suction cup near the bottom edge and pull upward to create a small gap. Insert a plastic prying tool and slide it around the perimeter to slice the adhesive.

   Lift and remove back cover

   Carefully lift the rear cover straight off the chassis once all adhesive is separated. Set the back cover aside on a clean surface.

   Unscrew the upper midframe shield

   Use a Phillips #000 precision screwdriver to remove all visible screws securing the plastic motherboard frame shield.

   Remove upper midframe shield

   Insert a plastic spudger beneath the corner of the upper midframe shield and gently pry up to release the plastic clips.

   Disconnect the battery cable

   Use the flat edge of a plastic spudger to pop the battery connector straight up off its motherboard socket.

   Disconnect volume and power button flex cable

   Locate the press-fit connector for the button flex cable on the side of the motherboard. Use a spudger to pry it straight up to disconnect.

   Unstick volume button flex cable from chassis

   Slide precision tweezers carefully beneath the volume button flex ribbon attached to the interior side wall. Pry gently to release the mild adhesive.

    Remove broken volume button assembly

    Lift the damaged volume button flex cable away from the internal side channel and remove it from the frame.

    Install replacement volume button flex cable

    Align the new volume button flex assembly into the chassis slot and press down firmly to set the adhesive backing.

    Connect new volume button flex cable

    Align the button flex cable connector over its motherboard receptacle and press down firmly until it clicks into place.

    Reconnect the battery cable

    Align the battery flex connector over the socket and gently press down with a spudger until it snaps into position.

    Reinstall upper midframe shield

    Place the midframe shield over the motherboard, press around the edges to snap the clips into place, and secure all Phillips screws.

    Reapply adhesive and seal back cover

    Apply new custom-cut adhesive tape along the perimeter frame, align the rear cover, and press firmly around all edges to seal.

    Reinsert the SIM card tray

    Slide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the left edge of the device until it sits completely flush.
