   Eject the SIM card tray

   Insert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge of the phone to pop out the tray. Pull the SIM tray completely out of the device.

   Heat the back panel

   Apply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the perimeter of the back panel for two minutes to soften the rear cover adhesive.

   Slice the back cover adhesive

   Attach a suction cup near the bottom edge, lift gently, and insert an opening pick into the gap. Slide the pick around all sides to cut through the perimeter adhesive.

   Disconnect the fingerprint sensor cable

   Carefully tilt the back cover open toward the left like a book. Use a plastic spudger to detach the fingerprint sensor press-connector from the motherboard.

   Unbolt the motherboard shield

   Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the ten screws securing the upper plastic motherboard frame.

   Remove the upper bracket

   Insert a plastic spudger beneath the edge of the plastic motherboard cover and pry up to detach it from the frame.

   Pry the battery press-connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using a spudger. This cuts power to prevent short circuits.

   Unplug the rear and front cameras

   Disconnect the display and interconnect flexes

    Unscrew the single Phillips #00 screw holding the bottom section of the logic board to the internal chassis.

    Gently insert a spudger under the bottom edge of the logic board and lift it out of the frame.

    Examine the logic board under magnification, applying flux and a soldering iron or hot air rework station to repair cracked joints or damaged micro-components.
