   Eject the SIM card tray

   Insert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the tray on the left edge of the phone. Push inward to pop the tray out and set it aside.

   Heat the back cover perimeter

   Use a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting to warm the outer edges of the back panel for two minutes. This softens the internal perimeter adhesive.

   Attach the suction cup

   Press a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear panel. Pull up gently on the ring to create a slight gap between the cover and the phone frame.

   Insert an opening pick

   Insert the thin tip of a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Do not push the pick in deeper than 3 millimeters.

   Slice the perimeter adhesive

   Slide the plastic pick along the lower, side, and top edges of the phone to cut through the back cover adhesive. Reapply heat if the pick meets resistance.

   Unclip and tilt the back cover

   Gently lift the back cover off the chassis, taking care not to strain the fingerprint sensor flex cable. Lay the cover flat beside the device chassis.

   Remove the upper cover screws

   Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the plastic motherboard shield cover. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.

   Detach the motherboard shield cover

   Insert a spudger under the edge of the motherboard shield cover and gently pry it up. Lift the cover away from the chassis and set it aside.

   Disconnect the battery cable

   Use the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard. Disconnecting the battery prevents accidental short circuits.

    Disconnect the volume button flex

    Locate the volume button flex cable connector near the right edge of the motherboard. Pry the connector up straight from its socket with your spudger.

    Peel up the volume flex cable

    Use fine tweezers to lift the volume button flex strip away from the internal frame cutout. Peel slowly to release the mild adhesive beneath it.

    Remove the physical button contact

    Lift the small tactile volume button pad out of the frame housing using tweezers. Clean away any residual adhesive in the slot with isopropyl alcohol.

    Insert the replacement volume button flex

    Align the new volume button flex assembly into the slot on the inner frame. Press down firmly along the flex body to stick it securely into place.

    Reconnect the flex cables

    Align the volume flex connector over its socket and press until it clicks. Reconnect the battery press connector to the motherboard using your thumb.

    Reinstall the motherboard cover

    Position the upper motherboard shield cover back over the assembly. Tighten all Phillips #00 screws until snug to hold the cover in place.

    Reseal the back cover

    Apply new back panel adhesive tape around the frame perimeter. Press the rear cover down firmly along all four edges to seal the phone.
