   Turn off the phone

   Press and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.

   Eject the SIM tray

   Insert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge of the phone. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it.

   Warm the back cover edges

   Apply mild heat along the rear edges with a heat gun or hair dryer for about one minute. This softens the plastic clips and perimeter adhesive.

   Insert opening tool into SIM seam

   Insert a plastic opening tool into the gap between the plastic back cover and the frame near the SIM card slot. Gently pry outward to create a gap.

   Unclip the back cover

   Slide the plastic prying tool around the entire perimeter of the device to disengage the internal plastic clips. Work slowly to prevent damaging the clips.

   Remove the back cover

   Lift the plastic back cover completely off the frame once all clips are disengaged. Set the rear cover aside in a safe spot.

   Unscrew the upper motherboard shield

   Use a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the black plastic motherboard cover. Group the screws together for reassembly.

   Remove motherboard protective shield

   Insert a spudger under the edge of the plastic motherboard cover and lift it up. Remove the cover from the device to access the board.

   Disconnect the battery cable

   Use the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up from its socket. This cuts power to prevent short circuits.

    Unlock the volume flex ZIF socket

    Use tweezers or a spudger tip to flip up the small ZIF connector locking flap holding the volume button flex cable on the motherboard.

    Disconnect the volume flex ribbon

    Gently slide the volume button flex ribbon out of the unlocked ZIF connector on the motherboard using tweezers.

    Warm the volume button assembly

    Apply light heat to the right outer edge of the frame for 15 seconds to soften the adhesive beneath the volume flex assembly.

    Peel out the volume flex cable

    Insert fine tweezers under the volume button flex board inside the frame recess. Carefully peel the ribbon and button contact switches away from the housing.

    Clean adhesive residue

    Dampen a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol and wipe away residual glue inside the button frame recess. Allow it to air dry completely.

    Seat the new volume flex cable

    Remove any protective backing from the new volume flex cable's adhesive. Position the button switches into the frame recess and press firmly to secure them.

    Secure ribbon into ZIF socket

    Insert the ribbon end of the new flex cable straight into the ZIF socket on the motherboard. Flip the small locking lever down to clamp it in place.

    Reconnect the battery cable

    Align the battery connector directly over its motherboard socket. Press straight down until it snaps securely into place.

    Reinstall motherboard cover and screws

    Place the plastic motherboard cover back into position. Replace and tighten the Phillips #000 screws to hold the shield down.

    Snap the back cover on

    Align the back cover with the phone body and press around the perimeter until all clips snap tightly closed. Reinsert the SIM card tray.
