Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the phone is completely shut down before proceeding.
- 2
Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge of the phone. Push firmly to eject the tray and pull it out.
- 3
Apply heat to rear edges
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat for 1-2 minutes along the back cover edges. This softens the perimeter plastic clips and slight adhesive.
- 4
Insert opening pick
2 minInsert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam between the back cover and the screen frame near the SIM card slot.
- 5
Unclip the bottom edge
2 minSlide the opening pick along the bottom edge to pop open the plastic retaining clips. Maintain light upward pressure to prevent clips from re-engaging.
- 6
Release perimeter clips
3 minSlide the pick up both sides of the phone, gently twisting to disengage all perimeter snaps. Work slowly around to the top edge.
- 7
Lift rear cover carefully
2 minHinge the back cover open from the right side like a book. Do not remove it completely yet, as the fingerprint sensor cable is still connected.
- 8
Disconnect fingerprint sensor ribbon
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pry up the fingerprint sensor press connector from the motherboard. Set the rear cover aside.
- 9
Unscrew lower housing cover
3 minRemove the seven Phillips #000 screws securing the bottom loudspeaker assembly to the main frame. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.
- 10
Pry up speaker assembly
2 minInsert a spudger under the small notch on the side of the loudspeaker module. Pry gently to unclip and remove the module.
- 11
Install replacement loudspeaker
2 minPosition the new loudspeaker assembly into the bottom cavity of the device chassis. Press gently along the edges until it sits flat.
- 12
Reinstall lower housing screws
3 minInsert and tighten the seven Phillips #000 screws into the loudspeaker module until snug. Avoid overtightening into the plastic frame.
- 13
Reconnect fingerprint sensor ribbon
2 minHold the rear cover near the motherboard and press the fingerprint flex cable connector straight down until it clicks into place.
- 14
Snap rear cover back on
2 minAlign the rear cover over the frame and press firmly along all edges until every perimeter clip snaps shut.
- 15
Reinsert SIM card tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the side of the phone until it sits flush with the body.
