Step-by-step

Power off phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Shut Down on the screen. Ensure the device is fully powered off before proceeding.

Eject SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left side of the phone. Push firmly until the tray pops out and remove it.

Warm back panel
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the internal adhesive.

Pry open back cover
4 minInsert a plastic prying tool into the seam near the SIM slot. Slide the tool along the edges to release the plastic retention clips.

Disconnect fingerprint flex connector
2 minSlightly lift the rear cover to reveal the fingerprint reader flex cable. Use a spudger to gently pry the ribbon connector off the motherboard.

3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the seven screws securing the lower plastic speaker housing.

Remove lower speaker module
2 minInsert the point of a spudger under the speaker housing edge and lift it out of the phone frame.

Disconnect main interconnect flex
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pop the press-fit main interconnect ribbon cable off the microphone sub-board.

Disconnect antenna cable
2 minUse precision tweezers to pry up the gold coaxial antenna head straight up from its socket on the microphone board.

Remove microphone sub-board
3 minInsert a flat spudger under the microphone sub-board to break the light adhesive holding it to the chassis, then remove it.

Install replacement sub-board
2 minPosition the new microphone daughterboard into the bottom cavity of the phone chassis and press down gently to set it.

Reconnect antenna cable
2 minAlign the antenna head over its socket on the new sub-board and press down firmly until it snaps into place.

Reconnect main interconnect flex
2 minAlign the main display/interconnect ribbon press connector over the sub-board header and press flat to snap it in.

Reinstall lower speaker module
3 minPlace the lower speaker assembly back over the sub-board and reinstall the seven Phillips #000 screws securely.

Reattach back cover
3 minReconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable, then press the back cover evenly along the perimeter until all clips snap closed.
