Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the Power button on the right side of the phone. Select Power Off on the screen and wait for the device to shut down completely.

Remove the rear back cover
2 minInsert a plastic spudger or fingernail into the USB port notch at the bottom of the device. Gently pry up to pop the plastic back cover off the body.

Remove the SIM card
1 minSlide the SIM card out of its slot using your thumb or a pair of tweezers. Set the card aside in a safe location.

Remove the fourteen midframe Torx screws
4 minUse a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove all fourteen screws securing the inner plastic midframe shield. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.

Pry off the inner plastic midframe
3 minInsert a flat opening tool around the outer edge between the front assembly and inner chassis. Carefully unhook the plastic latches and lift off the midframe shield.

Disconnect the battery cable connector
2 minLocate the battery flex connector near the middle-left of the board. Use a plastic spudger to gently pry the connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect the display flex cable
2 minPry open the ZIF connector latch securing the display ribbon cable. Carefully slide the display flex cable out of its socket.

Disconnect the digitizer flex cable
2 minUse a spudger to lift the retaining clip on the digitizer cable ZIF connector. Pull the digitizer ribbon cable away from the logic board.

Remove the rear camera module
2 minPry the rear camera press-fit connector straight up off the logic board. Lift the camera module out of its recessed notch.

Lift the logic board out of the frame
3 minGently insert a spudger beneath the bottom edge of the logic board. Lift the board up and out of the front display assembly frame.

Apply flux to solder joints
3 minInspect the logic board under a magnifying glass for broken joints or corrosion. Apply a thin layer of liquid flux directly to the target component pins.

Reflow damaged logic board components
8 minTouch the preheated fine-tip soldering iron to the faulty solder joints to reflow the metal. Use desoldering braid to absorb any excess solder bridge.

Seat the logic board into the frame
3 minAlign the repaired logic board over the front chassis cutouts. Press gently along the board edges until it rests flush inside the housing.

Reconnect the display and battery flex cables
4 minSlide the display and digitizer flex cables back into their ZIF sockets and snap down the retaining latches. Press the battery connector firmly onto its socket.

Reattach the inner midframe and screws
4 minSnap the plastic midframe shield back over the assembly. Reinstall and tighten all fourteen T3 Torx screws until snug.
