Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Eject SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the left side of the frame and push firmly to release the tray.

Heat rear back cover
2 minApply a heat gun or iOpener around the edges of the rear plastic cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower section of the back cover and pull upward to create a slight gap.

Insert opening pick
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the seam along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive seal.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minMove the pick carefully around the left and right sides to separate the back cover from the frame.

Open rear cover carefully
1 minGently swing the back cover open from the right side like a book, taking care not to yank the fingerprint sensor cable.

Unscrew upper metal bracket
2 minRemove the Phillips screws holding the upper motherboard shield and fingerprint cable bracket in place.

Disconnect fingerprint cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the fingerprint sensor flex connector straight up from the motherboard.

Remove lower speaker screws
2 minUnscrew the seven Phillips screws securing the loudspeaker assembly at the bottom of the phone.

Pry up loudspeaker module
1 minInsert a spudger under the top lip of the loudspeaker housing and pry upward to release it from the frame.

Remove old loudspeaker
1 minLift the damaged loudspeaker module out of the lower chassis and clear away any loose debris.

Seat new loudspeaker module
1 minPlace the new replacement loudspeaker into the lower housing cavity and press down until it sits flush.

Reinstall lower housing screws
2 minFasten the seven Phillips screws back into the loudspeaker assembly to lock it in place.

Reconnect fingerprint sensor
1 minAlign the fingerprint flex cable over its socket and press gently until it snaps into position.

Reseal back cover
3 minApply fresh rear cover adhesive, press the back cover firmly onto the chassis, and reinsert the SIM tray.
