Step-by-step

Power down the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off to completely turn off your device.

Heat the back cover edges
3 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer along the back cover edges for 2 minutes to soften the underlying adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower portion of the rear glass near the edge.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minPull up on the suction cup to create a gap and insert a plastic prying pick. Slide the pick around all edges to sever the adhesive.

Remove the back cover
2 minCarefully lift the rear panel off the chassis and set it aside.

Unscrew the upper midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper motherboard shield.

Remove upper midframe shield
2 minPry up the plastic upper shield using a spudger and lift it out of the phone.

Disconnect the battery flex
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pop the battery press connector off the motherboard.

Unscrew the loudspeaker assembly
2 minRemove the Phillips screws holding the lower speaker module in place at the bottom of the device.

Remove the loudspeaker
2 minPry up the loudspeaker module from its housing and remove it from the phone.

Disconnect lower sub-board cables
2 minUse tweezers or a spudger to disconnect the main interconnect flex cable and coaxial antenna cable from the daughterboard.

Pry out the microphone sub-board
2 minGently insert a spudger beneath the sub-board containing the microphone and pry it up from the chassis adhesive.

Install the new microphone board
2 minAlign the replacement sub-board into the lower recess and press down firmly to set it in place.

Reconnect lower flex and antenna
2 minSnap the main interconnect flex cable and press the coaxial antenna head onto the new sub-board connectors.

Reinstall the loudspeaker assembly
2 minPosition the loudspeaker module back over the bottom sub-board and secure it with the reserved Phillips screws.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minAlign and press the battery connector straight down onto the motherboard socket until it clicks.

Reattach the upper midframe
3 minPlace the upper shield cover back on and tighten the Phillips screws to secure it.

Seal the back cover
3 minApply new adhesive strips along the phone frame, align the rear cover, and press firmly along the edges to seal.
