Step-by-step

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM card tray on the left side of the phone. Push firmly to pop the tray out and remove it.

Heat the back cover edges
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer set to low to warm the edges of the back cover for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear plastic panel, close to the bottom edge.

Create an opening gap
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup while pressing a thin plastic prying tool into the seam between the back panel and the frame.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide a plastic opening pick around all four edges of the back cover to cut through the remaining adhesive glue.

Lift away the back cover
1 minCarefully lift the rear panel off the phone body and set it aside in a clean spot.

Remove midframe Phillips screws
4 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to unbolt all Phillips screws securing the plastic midframe and motherboard shield.

Unclip the plastic midframe
2 minInsert a spudger around the perimeter of the midframe to unhook its plastic retention clips, then lift the midframe off the chassis.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery press-connector straight up from its motherboard socket.

1 minUnplug the flex cable that stretches across the top of the battery using a plastic spudger.

Apply isopropyl alcohol
2 minDrip a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the top and bottom edges of the battery to weaken the factory adhesive.

Pry out the worn battery
4 minInsert a wide plastic card or spudger beneath the battery and gently lever it upward until it separates from the housing.

Clean old adhesive residue
2 minUse tweezers and isopropyl alcohol to wipe away remaining glue strips and debris from the battery well.

Apply new battery adhesive
2 minLay fresh double-sided battery adhesive strips into the recessed battery cavity on the frame.

Install the replacement battery
2 minAlign the new battery over the compartment and press down firmly to secure it onto the adhesive.

Reconnect flex cables
2 minSnap the main interconnect flex cable and the battery connector back onto their corresponding motherboard sockets.
