Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Power down the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered off before continuing.
- 2
Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the left side of the frame. Push firmly to pop the tray out, then remove it from the phone.
- 3
Heat the rear cover
2 minApply a heat gun set to low warmth along the back cover edges for about two minutes. This softens the factory perimeter adhesive.
- 4
Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower section of the back panel. Pull upward smoothly on the ring to create a thin gap near the charging port.
- 5
Slice through rear adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap made by the suction cup. Slide the pick around all four edges to cut the perimeter adhesive.
- 6
Remove the rear cover
1 minLift the rear cover straight off the chassis once all adhesive is severed. Set the back panel aside on a clean surface.
- 7
Unscrew the motherboard shield
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws holding down the upper plastic motherboard frame. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.
- 8
Detach the motherboard shield
2 minInsert the flat end of a spudger under the top edge of the plastic shield. Gently pry up to unsnap and remove the cover.
- 9
Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pop the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard. This prevents accidental short circuits during repair.
- 10
Disconnect power button flex
2 minLocate the power and volume button flex connector on the edge of the motherboard. Pry it straight up from its socket with a plastic spudger.
- 11
Peel off old power button flex
2 minUse fine tweezers to carefully peel the ribbon cable and physical button switch away from the inner side frame. Discard the damaged flex cable assembly.
- 12
Position new power button flex
3 minPeel any protective adhesive backing from the replacement power button ribbon. Align the switch components into the frame channel and press firmly.
- 13
Attach power button connector
1 minAlign the flex connector directly over its motherboard socket. Press down gently until you feel it click into place.
- 14
Reconnect the battery flex
1 minSnap the battery connector back onto its motherboard socket using your thumb or a plastic spudger.
- 15
Reinstall motherboard shield
3 minPlace the plastic upper frame back over the motherboard and press down to seat it. Reinstall all previously removed Phillips screws tightly.
- 16
Reseal the rear panel
4 minApply new adhesive tape or a bead of B-7000 glue to the frame perimeter. Press the rear cover down firmly and reinsert the SIM tray.
