Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off to completely turn off your Motorola G9.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole beside the SIM tray and push gently to release the tray.

Heat the rear cover edges
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the perimeter of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minAttach a suction cup near the bottom edge, pull upward, and slide a plastic opening pick along the gap to slice the adhesive.

Disconnect fingerprint cable
2 minCarefully pivot the rear cover up and use a spudger to pry the fingerprint sensor connector off the mainboard.

Unscrew the loudspeaker assembly
3 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws holding the lower speaker cover to the chassis.

Pry out the loudspeaker
2 minInsert a spudger under the notch on the speaker housing and lift it away from the phone.

Disconnect main flex cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pop the lower end of the main interconnect flex cable off the microphone sub-board.

Unplug the coaxial antenna cable
2 minGently lift the antenna cable head off the sub-board connector using precision tweezers.

Remove the faulty microphone sub-board
2 minInsert a spudger beneath the sub-board and pry it out of the lower chassis housing.

Install the new microphone sub-board
2 minAlign the replacement sub-board over the lower frame and press it down into place.

Reconnect antenna and main flex cables
2 minSnap the coaxial antenna connector and main flex cable firmly back onto the new sub-board.

Reinstall the loudspeaker cover
3 minPlace the loudspeaker housing over the sub-board and tighten the Phillips #000 screws.

Attach fingerprint cable and seal back cover
3 minReconnect the fingerprint sensor cable, align the back cover, and press firmly along the edges to seal.

Power the G9 back on and test the microphone repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
