Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the display. Ensure the phone is completely shut down before starting.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole beside the SIM card tray. Press firmly to pop out the tray and remove it from the phone.

Warm the rear cover
2 minApply heat to the edges of the plastic back panel using a heat gun or hair dryer for 2 minutes. This softens the perimeter adhesive strips.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel. Press down firmly to secure a tight vacuum grip.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert a plastic opening pick. Slide the pick around all four edges to cut through the adhesive and plastic clips.

Disconnect fingerprint sensor cable
2 minGently lift the back cover slightly to reveal the fingerprint ribbon cable. Use a spudger to detach the press-fit sensor connector from the motherboard.

Remove upper motherboard screws
3 minUnscrew the eleven Phillips #00 screws securing the plastic motherboard protective cover.

Pry off motherboard shield
2 minInsert the tip of a spudger under the edge of the plastic motherboard cover. Lift gently to snap it free from the phone frame.

Disconnect the battery
1 minLocate the battery flex cable attached to the motherboard. Pry the connector straight up using a plastic spudger to disconnect power.

Disconnect lower interconnect cable
2 minUse a spudger to disconnect the display and interconnect flex cables bridging over the battery.

Locate battery pull tabs
1 minIdentify the adhesive pull tabs labeled near the bottom edge of the battery pouch.

Pull adhesive strips
3 minGrasp the first adhesive tab firmly and pull it out slowly at a low angle. Continue pulling steadily until the entire strip releases from under the battery.

Pry battery out gently
3 minIf adhesive remains, apply a few drops of high-grade isopropyl alcohol along the battery sides. Insert a flat plastic card underneath to lever the battery out.

Clean battery compartment
2 minRemove any leftover adhesive tape or residual liquid from the recessed battery housing in the frame.

Apply replacement adhesive
2 minLay fresh pre-cut adhesive strips into the battery compartment and peel off the protective backing film.

Install new battery
2 minAlign the new battery with the cavity and press down firmly to set it into the new adhesive.

Reconnect flex cables
2 minPress the interconnect cables and the battery flex cable down into their motherboard sockets until they snap into place.

Reinstall motherboard cover and rear panel
5 minSnap the motherboard cover back on and secure its screws. Reconnect the fingerprint sensor cable and seal the back cover with fresh adhesive tape.
