Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully powered down before continuing.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole next to the SIM tray on the left edge. Push inward firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it.

Heat the rear panel
2 minApply heat around the outer edges of the rear panel using a heat gun or hair dryer for two minutes to soften the internal adhesive.

Create an opening gap
2 minPress a suction cup onto the lower half of the back cover and pull upward firmly. Insert a plastic opening pick into the gap created between the cover and frame.

Unclip the back cover
3 minSlide the plastic pick around the entire perimeter of the phone to release the plastic clips and adhesive securing the back cover.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minSlightly lift the back cover, being careful not to strain the fingerprint sensor cable. Use a spudger to pry the fingerprint flex connector up from the motherboard.

Remove the back cover
1 minLift the back cover completely off the phone body and place it in a safe location.

Unscrew the motherboard cover
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 11 screws securing the plastic motherboard frame.

Remove the motherboard frame
2 minInsert a spudger beneath the edge of the plastic motherboard cover and pry up gently to remove it.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pop the battery connector straight up off the motherboard to prevent electrical shorts.

Disconnect the volume button flex cable
1 minLocate the volume/power flex cable connector on the right side of the motherboard. Use a spudger to detach the connector.

Peel out the volume button flex cable
2 minCarefully slide precision tweezers under the volume button flex cable along the inner frame to peel it away from the chassis adhesive.

Remove the physical volume button key
2 minUse tweezers to push the physical volume rocker button inward from the outside frame to release it from its slot if replacement is needed.

Install the new volume button assembly
2 minSet the new volume flex cable into the recessed channel on the frame and press firmly to adhere it in place.
