Safety

Step-by-step
- 1
Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray on the side of the Moto G85. Push firmly to pop the tray out and remove it completely.

Heat the rear panel edges
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on medium setting to warm the outer perimeter of the back cover for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Apply suction cup to the back cover
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel and press down to create a firm seal.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap, then slide a plastic opening pick between the back cover and the frame.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick around all four edges of the back panel to slice through the remaining adhesive.

Remove the back cover
1 minLift the rear cover straight off the frame and place it on a clean work surface.

Unscrew the lower speaker housing
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower loudspeaker cover to the bottom frame.

Pry up the speaker module
2 minInsert the flat end of a spudger beneath the edge of the speaker module and gently lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect the interconnect flex cable
1 minUse a spudger to pry the main ribbon cable connector straight up from the lower daughterboard.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cable
2 minGently pry up the antenna cable connector from the daughterboard using fine tweezers.

Remove the microphone daughterboard
2 minLever the sub-board containing the primary microphone out of the bottom housing using a spudger.

Position the new microphone board
2 minAlign the replacement daughterboard with the guide pins in the lower frame and press it flat into place.

Reconnect the coaxial antenna cable
2 minSnap the coaxial antenna connector firmly onto the terminal of the new daughterboard using tweezers.

Attach the main flex cable
1 minAlign the interconnect flex cable connector over its socket on the daughterboard and press down until it clicks.

Reinstall the speaker housing
2 minPlace the loudspeaker cover back over the daughterboard assembly and press it flat into the chassis.

Secure the speaker screws
3 minDrive the Phillips #000 screws back into the speaker housing until finger-tight.

Apply new cover adhesive
4 minClean off old adhesive remnants with isopropyl alcohol, then line the frame edges with pre-cut adhesive strips.

Reattach the rear panel
2 minAlign the back panel with the phone frame and press firmly along all edges to seal the device shut.
