Step-by-step

Power off and remove SIM tray
2 minTurn off your Moto G85 completely. Insert a SIM eject tool into the tray hole near the bottom edge and pull the tray out.

Heat the rear glass panel
3 minApply heat around the perimeter of the back cover using a heat gun set to 80°C for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
4 minAttach a suction cup to the lower back panel and pull up to create a small gap. Insert an opening pick and slice around all four edges.

Lift off the rear panel
1 minCarefully tilt and lift the rear glass panel away from the frame once the adhesive is fully severed.

Unscrew the top midframe cover
3 minRemove the Phillips screws securing the plastic motherboard frame using a precision #00 screwdriver.

Detach the top midframe cover
2 minUse a plastic spudger to gently pry the midframe housing away from the phone chassis and lift it out.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry up the battery press connector from the logic board socket using a spudger to cut power.

Disconnect the interconnect and display flexes
2 minPop off the display flex connector and main sub-board ribbon cable from the motherboard with a plastic tool.

Disconnect camera modules
2 minUnplug the front-facing and rear camera flex connectors from the logic board.

Unplug the coaxial antenna cable
1 minGently pry up the gold coaxial antenna connector head from its socket near the edge of the board.

Remove the logic board retaining screw
1 minUnscrew the single securing screw anchoring the logic board to the aluminum chassis.

Extract the logic board
2 minGrasp the top edge of the board and lift it angled upward out of the phone frame.

Inspect and resolder damaged components
15 minExamine the board under magnification, apply flux, and use a micro soldering tip to reflow or repair corroded component pads.
