Step-by-step
- 1
Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray on the left edge of the phone. Push firmly straight in to pop out the tray and remove it.

Heat the rear panel
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting to warm the back cover edges for about two minutes. This softens the factory adhesive securing the back cover.

Attach a suction cup to the back cover
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear panel, close to the USB-C port. Pull up gently on the ring to create a slight gap between the cover and the frame.

Insert an opening pick under the back cover
2 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the seam created by the suction cup. Do not push the pick in more than a few millimeters to avoid damaging internal ribbons.

Slice the back cover adhesive
3 minSlide the plastic pick along all four sides of the phone to cut through the perimeter adhesive tape. Reapply heat if the pick meets heavy resistance.

Remove the back cover
1 minLift the rear panel clear of the phone chassis. Set the back panel aside in a clean location.

Unscrew the midframe fasteners
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove all visible screws securing the midframe plastic bezel. Place the screws in a organizer tray to keep track of their positions.

Unclip and remove the midframe bezel
2 minInsert a flat plastic spudger into the seam around the outer edge of the midframe. Pry around the perimeter until all internal plastic clips release, then lift the midframe off.

Disconnect the battery press connector
1 minUse the pointed end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery flex cable connector straight up from its motherboard socket. This cuts power to the board and prevents electrical shorts.

Disconnect the display cable
1 minLocate the screen flex connector on the motherboard. Pry the press connector straight up with a plastic spudger to disconnect it.

Heat the front display assembly
3 minApply even heat across the front screen for approximately two to three minutes using a heat gun. Focus along the outer black borders where the screen adheres to the frame.

Insert an opening pick under the screen
2 minAttach a suction cup to the front glass and pull upward while inserting a plastic pick under the edge of the glass. Take care not to drive glass shards into your fingers.

Slice through the screen adhesive perimeter
3 minWork your opening pick around all four edges of the front display to cut through the adhesive layer. Take extra care around the bottom where flex cables route into the body.

Lift and remove the cracked display panel
2 minCarefully tilt the screen off the body, guiding the display flex cable out through the frame slot. Dispose of the damaged screen properly.

Clean the display bezel frame
4 minScrape off all residual adhesive strips and broken glass fragments from the metal frame using tweezers or a plastic scraper. Wipe the contact area with isopropyl alcohol.

Connect the new screen cable for dry testing
2 minFeed the new display's flex cable through the frame slot and plug its connector onto the motherboard. Do not peel off the adhesive backings yet.

Connect the battery and test functionality
2 minSnap the battery connector back onto the motherboard. Press the power button to boot the Moto G84 and verify touch response and visual display quality.

Disconnect battery and screen after testing
1 minPower down the device completely. Disconnect the battery connector first, then unplug and temporarily remove the new display panel.

Apply display adhesive tape to the frame
3 minLay fresh double-sided adhesive tape precisely along the perimeter rim of the phone housing. Peel away the protective liner strips to expose the sticky surface.

Seat the new display panel into position
2 minRoute the display flex cable back through the frame slot. Align the new screen carefully with the phone body edges and press it gently down along the borders to seal.

Reconnect the screen flex cable
1 minAlign the press connector carefully over its motherboard socket and press straight down until it clicks securely into place.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minPress the battery cable connector back onto its corresponding motherboard port until properly seated.

Reattach the midframe bezel
2 minPosition the plastic midframe over the motherboard and sub-board areas. Press firmly along the edges until the plastic clips snap securely back into the frame.

Fasten the midframe screws
3 minDrive all Phillips #00 screws back into their respective holes on the midframe until snug. Avoid overtightening to prevent stripping the plastic housing.

Reinstall the SIM card tray
1 minSlide the SIM tray back into its slot on the left side of the phone until it sits flush against the outer rim.

Re-seal and attach the back cover
3 minApply narrow adhesive strips around the rear rim of the phone housing. Press the rear glass panel down firmly and apply mild pressure for a few minutes to ensure a good bond.
