Power Off Device
1 minPress and hold the power button on the right edge of the Moto G8, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.

Eject SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the small hole on the left edge of the phone. Push firmly inward to eject the SIM tray, then remove it completely.

Heat Back Cover Edges
3 minApply heat to the rear perimeter using a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat for 2-3 minutes. This softens the adhesive securing the plastic rear panel to the frame.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower third of the rear panel, near the bottom edge. Press down to secure a firm vacuum seal.

Create Opening Gap
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup while pressing down on the frame to create a tiny seam between the rear panel and the body.

Insert Opening Pick
1 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap created near the bottom edge. Do not push the pick deeper than 5mm to avoid internal components.

Slice Rear Panel Adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around the perimeter of the phone to separate the glue. Take extra care around the middle-right area near the fingerprint sensor.

Separate Back Cover Gently
2 minPry the rear panel upward slightly like a book from the right edge. Do not rip it away completely, as the fingerprint ribbon cable is still connected.

Unseat Fingerprint Sensor
2 minUse a spudger to gently push the fingerprint sensor button down through the rear cover opening so it stays attached to the chassis cable.

Remove Rear Panel
1 minLift the rear panel fully away from the phone body once the fingerprint sensor is clear. Set the back cover aside in a safe spot.

Unscrew Motherboard Cover
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper plastic motherboard bracket. Keep track of each screw for reassembly.

Remove Motherboard Bracket
1 minUse tweezers or a spudger to lift the plastic motherboard bracket up and out of the phone chassis.

Disconnect Battery Cable
1 minInsert the flat end of a plastic spudger directly beneath the battery flex connector on the motherboard. Pry straight up to disconnect it.

Disconnect Fingerprint Flex
1 minPry up the fingerprint reader ribbon cable connector from the motherboard using the point of a spudger and remove the sensor strip.

Apply Isopropyl Alcohol
3 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the top and side edges of the battery well. Wait 2 minutes for the adhesive to dissolve.

Pry Up Old Battery
3 minInsert a flat plastic spudger under the lower edge of the battery cell. Carefully lever the battery upward until the factory glue releases.

Lift Out Battery
1 minGrasp the freed battery cell and lift it out of the recess. Dispose of or recycle the swollen or degraded battery safely.

Clean Battery Well
2 minWipe away remaining adhesive residue inside the frame tray using a lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

Install Adhesive Strips
2 minPeel the backing off new battery adhesive strips and lay them flat into the battery compartment recess.

Seat New Battery
2 minAlign the replacement battery into the tray and press down firmly across its surface to secure it to the new adhesive.

Reconnect Battery Connector
1 minAlign the battery ribbon connector over its motherboard socket and press down gently until it snaps into place.

Reconnect Fingerprint Cable
1 minPlug the fingerprint reader ribbon cable connector back onto its corresponding motherboard press socket.

Reinstall Motherboard Bracket
3 minPlace the top plastic motherboard shield back onto the housing. Fasten all Phillips #000 screws snugly without overtightening.

Reattach Rear Panel
3 minApply fresh back-cover adhesive strips to the frame perimeter. Press the rear cover down firmly along all four edges until flush.

Reinsert SIM Tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the left edge until it sits flush with the outer frame.
