Power off the device

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the hole beside the SIM tray on the left edge. Press firmly to pop the tray out and remove it.

Heat the rear panel
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the edges of the plastic back cover for 2 minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPlace a suction cup on the lower back cover and pull gently to create a gap. Insert a plastic opening pick into the seam between the back cover and frame.

Unclip the back cover
3 minSlide the opening pick around all four edges to release the plastic clips and cut through remaining adhesive.

Open rear cover partially
1 minGently lift the back cover from the right edge like a book. Do not pull it away completely yet, as the fingerprint sensor flex cable is still attached.

Unscrew the motherboard shield
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the top plastic motherboard shield.

Remove motherboard shield
1 minUse tweezers or a spudger to lift the plastic shield up and out of the phone chassis.

Disconnect the fingerprint reader
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the fingerprint sensor flex cable directly up from its motherboard socket, then remove the back cover.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry up the battery press connector from the motherboard to prevent electrical shorts while working.

Disconnect the screen flex cable
1 minUse a spudger to pop the display flex cable connector off the main circuit board.

Heat the front display
3 minWarm the front screen edges evenly with a heat gun for 2 to 3 minutes to loosen the screen glue.

Pry up the front screen
2 minAttach a suction cup near the bottom edge of the display, pull up, and slide a thin opening pick under the glass frame.

Slice perimeter screen adhesive
4 minSlide picks along all four perimeter edges of the front glass to slice through the adhesive holding the display.

Separate display from chassis
2 minLift the damaged display off the frame, threading the attached flex cable carefully through the frame slot.

Clean old display adhesive
3 minScrape away remaining glue from the housing rim with a spudger, then wipe clean using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Apply new adhesive strips
3 minLine the display frame edges with fresh double-sided adhesive strips or a thin bead of specialized phone repair glue.

Install the replacement display
3 minThread the new screen's flex cable through the slot in the frame and press the panel firmly into place along all edges.
