Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button on the right edge, then select Power Off on the screen.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the left side of the phone and press firmly to eject the tray.

Insert an opening pick
2 minInsert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam between the screen bezel and the rear cover near the SIM slot.

Unclip the rear cover
3 minSlide the pick around the perimeter of the device to release the plastic clips holding the back cover.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex
2 minSlightly lift the rear cover and use a flat plastic spudger to pop the fingerprint reader connector off the motherboard.

Remove the back cover
1 minLift the rear cover completely away from the phone body and set it aside.

Unscrew the speaker housing
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the seven screws holding the lower speaker module in place.

Pry up the loudspeaker assembly
2 minInsert the edge of a spudger under the notch of the plastic speaker cover and lift it up to detach it from the phone frame.

Clear debris from speaker recess
2 minUse tweezers to remove any dust or leftover adhesive gaskets from the frame where the speaker rests.

Position the new loudspeaker
2 minAlign the replacement loudspeaker block over the bottom daughterboard and press down gently until it rests flat.

Reinstall the speaker screws
3 minDrive the seven Phillips #00 screws back into the speaker housing until snug.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor flex
2 minHold the rear cover near the top of the chassis and snap the fingerprint sensor flex cable back onto its motherboard socket.

Snap the rear cover on
2 minAlign the rear cover with the chassis and press firmly along all edges until you hear the clips lock into place.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minPush the SIM card tray back into its slot on the left side of the phone until it sits flush.

Test the loudspeaker
2 minPower on the device and play a video or ringtone to verify sound output from the new speaker.
