Step-by-step

Power Off the Device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Shut Down on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before starting.

Eject the SIM Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole beside the SIM card tray. Press firmly to pop the tray out, then pull it out completely.

Heat the Back Cover
3 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat to warm the outer edges of the rear panel for two minutes. This softens the adhesive beneath the cover.

Attach Suction Cup
2 minPress a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel. Pull gently upward to create a small gap between the panel and the frame.

Slice Rear Adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic prying tool into the seam created by the suction cup. Carefully slide it around all four edges to slice through the adhesive.

Lift the Back Cover
2 minGently pivot the back cover open from the side. Unclip any attached fingerprint sensor flex cable carefully before setting the cover aside.

Unscrew the Midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all securing screws from the plastic upper midframe cover. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.

Remove the Midframe Cover
2 minInsert a flat plastic spudger beneath the edge of the upper midframe cover. Pry gently around the edges to release the plastic clips and remove it.

1 minLocate the battery flex cable connector on the motherboard. Use the point of a spudger to snap the connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect Volume Flex Cable
2 minFind the volume button ribbon connector attached to the side of the motherboard. Pry the connector up carefully using a spudger.

Remove the Volume Button Flex
3 minUse fine tweezers to peel the volume button flex strip away from the inner side frame. Take care not to bend or tear the rubber seal beneath the metal contacts.

Install New Volume Button Flex
3 minPosition the replacement volume button flex cable into the channel along the inner frame. Press down firmly on the contact pad to adhere it in place.

Reconnect Volume Cable
2 minAlign the press connector on the new volume button cable with its socket on the motherboard. Press down evenly until it snaps into place.

Reconnect the Battery
1 minAlign the battery press connector over its motherboard socket. Gently press straight down until you feel a firm click.

Reattach the Midframe Cover
3 minLower the midframe cover over the motherboard and press around the perimeter to engage the clips. Fasten all Phillips #000 screws securely.

Apply Back Cover Adhesive
4 minClean remaining adhesive from the inner frame using isopropyl alcohol. Place new double-sided adhesive strips along the perimeter of the frame.

Seal the Back Cover
2 minAlign the rear cover with the phone body and press down firmly around all edges. Apply uniform pressure for one minute to ensure a tight bond.
