Step-by-step

Power off the Motorola G71S
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to safely shut down the phone.

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray on the side of the phone and press firmly to eject it.

Heat the back cover edges
2 minApply a heat gun set to low heat around the outer perimeter of the rear glass panel for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel and press down to create a tight seal.

Create a gap with prying pick
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup and insert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam under the back panel.

Slice through the rear adhesive
3 minSlide the plastic pick along all four edges of the back cover to separate the remaining adhesive.

Remove the back cover
1 minCarefully lift the rear panel off the frame and set it aside in a clean area.

Unscrew the midframe fasteners
4 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the protective plastic midframe in place.

Detach the plastic midframe
2 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the midframe and gently pop it off the chassis.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to lever the battery connector straight up from the motherboard socket.

Apply isopropyl alcohol to adhesive
2 minDrip a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the sides of the battery to weaken the glue.

Pull out the adhesive tabs
3 minGrasp the pull-tabs on the battery adhesive strips with tweezers and pull them slowly at a low angle.

Pry out the old battery
2 minInsert a plastic spudger under the battery edge and gently lift it out from the device recess.

Install the replacement battery
3 minApply new adhesive strips to the battery cavity, align the new battery, and press it firmly into position.
