Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the phone is completely powered down before continuing.

Heat the rear glass
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the edges of the rear cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower back cover and pull upward gently to create a slight gap near the bottom edge.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic prying tool into the gap and slide it slowly around the edges to cut through the glue.

Pivot the rear cover
2 minGently lift the right side of the rear glass cover like a book. Do not pull it away completely yet, as the fingerprint sensor cable is still attached.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to pry the fingerprint reader flex connector straight up from the motherboard socket.

Remove the rear panel
1 minSet the loosened rear glass cover aside in a safe, clean space.

Unscrew the motherboard frame
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the ten screws securing the upper plastic motherboard cover.

Remove the motherboard cover
2 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the upper plastic frame and lift it up and off the device.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard using a plastic spudger to disconnect the power.

Apply isopropyl alcohol
2 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol around the battery edges to break down the adhesive beneath it.

Pry up the battery
3 minInsert a plastic card beneath the battery from the sides and slowly lever it upward.

Remove the old battery
1 minLift the battery out of the metal frame and dispose of it safely.

Clean the battery compartment
2 minRemove remaining adhesive residue from the metal frame using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Apply new adhesive strips
2 minPlace new custom double-sided battery adhesive strips into the empty battery compartment.

Install the new battery
2 minAlign the replacement battery into the frame and press down firmly to set it against the adhesive.

Reconnect the battery press connector
1 minAlign and press the battery connector straight down into its socket until it clicks into place.

Reinstall the motherboard cover
3 minSet the plastic motherboard frame in place and secure it with the ten Phillips #00 screws.

Reconnect fingerprint sensor and seal back
3 minConnect the fingerprint flex cable, apply new adhesive to the rear glass perimeter, and press the rear cover firmly back onto the frame.
After your Motorola G7 battery replacement
Power the G7 back on and test the battery replacement function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
