Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minHold down the power button and select Power Off immediately to stop electrical current.

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge of the phone to pop out the tray.

Heat the rear cover
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup and slice adhesive
3 minPlace a suction cup on the bottom rear cover, lift up to create a gap, and insert an opening pick.

Slice remaining perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the pick gently along all four edges of the back cover to cut through the glue.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable
2 minSlightly tilt the back cover up and use a spudger to pop off the fingerprint ribbon connector.

Unscrew the upper motherboard cover
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the upper plastic bracket in place.

Remove the upper motherboard bracket
2 minUse tweezers or a spudger to lift the plastic shield away from the top of the chassis.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from the motherboard using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect display and daughterboard cables
2 minUnplug the display cable and lower interconnect flex cable from their motherboard sockets.

Remove motherboard mounting screws
2 minUnscrew the Phillips screws securing the motherboard assembly to the inner frame.

Remove the main motherboard
2 minGently lift the motherboard by its edges out of the housing and place it on an anti-static surface.

Scrub the motherboard with isopropyl alcohol
5 minDip a soft brush in 99% isopropyl alcohol and gently scrub off corrosion deposits from all board components.

Remove and clean the lower daughterboard
4 minUnscrew and lift out the lower charging assembly board, then scrub away any liquid residue with alcohol.

Dry all cleaned components
10 minUse compressed air to blow away excess alcohol, then leave the boards to dry completely in a ventilated area.
