Step-by-step

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small pinhole on the upper left edge of the device. Press firmly to pop the tray out, then remove it.

Heat the back cover edges
2 minApply moderate heat around the rear edges of the phone for about two minutes using a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass cover to secure a tight seal.

Insert an opening pick
1 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap at the bottom edge, then slide an opening pick under the cover.

Slice through rear adhesive
3 minCarefully slide the opening pick around all four edges of the rear panel to cut through the perimeter tape.

Lift the rear cover slightly
1 minPry up the rear cover from the left edge like a book, taking care not to yank it off since the fingerprint sensor cable is attached.

Unclip the fingerprint cable connector
2 minUse a plastic spudger to pry up and disconnect the fingerprint reader flex cable from the motherboard, then set the back cover aside.

Unscrew the motherboard shield
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the plastic motherboard bracket to the chassis.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the battery flex connector straight up out of its socket to cut power to the device.

1 minLocate the display cable connector on the motherboard and gently lever it up with the spudger.

Heat the front display panel
3 minApply heat uniformly around the outer edges of the front screen for two to three minutes to break down the adhesive.

Insert a pick under the display
2 minAttach a suction cup to the front screen, pull up to create a gap, and insert an opening pick between the glass and the body frame.

Slice the screen adhesive
3 minWork the pick around all perimeter edges of the display assembly to separate it from the chassis.

Remove the broken screen
2 minLift the screen off the frame while carefully guiding the attached display flex cable through the frame opening.

Clean old frame adhesive
