Step-by-step
- 1
Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole next to the tray on the top left edge. Push firmly to eject the tray and remove it completely.

Heat the back panel
2 minApply heat to the edges of the rear cover using a heat gun or hair dryer for approximately two minutes. This softens the adhesive holding the back cover in place.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear glass cover. Ensure a tight seal near the bottom edge.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a slight gap between the back cover and frame. Slide a thin plastic opening pick into the seam.

Slice the back cover adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick carefully along all four sides of the phone to cut through the perimeter adhesive. Reapply heat if the glue hardens.

Lift the back cover carefully
1 minGently swing open the back cover from the left edge like a book. Do not pull it away completely yet, as the fingerprint reader cable is still connected.

Unscrew the fingerprint cable bracket
1 minLocate the small metal bracket covering the fingerprint sensor connector on the motherboard. Remove the single Phillips #00 screw securing it.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pop the fingerprint sensor press connector straight up off the motherboard socket. Set the back panel aside.

Remove the midframe screws
3 minUnscrew all Phillips #00 screws holding the upper plastic midframe cover to the phone chassis.

Remove the motherboard midframe
2 minPry up the edges of the plastic midframe using an opening tool and remove it to expose the motherboard and battery connector.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the edge of a plastic spudger to pry the battery flex cable connector straight up off the motherboard socket.

Apply isopropyl alcohol to battery edges
2 minDrip a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the left and right sides of the battery to weaken the strong adhesive underneath.

Pry up the old battery
3 minInsert a wide plastic prying tool or plastic card beneath the battery. Slowly lever the battery up from the chassis, taking care not to bend or puncture it.

Clean the battery well
2 minWipe away old adhesive residue and dirt from the frame cavity using a lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new battery adhesive
2 minLay down fresh precut battery adhesive strips onto the metal frame inside the battery housing.

Install the replacement battery
2 minPosition the new battery in the well and press down firmly to secure it to the adhesive. Reconnect the battery flex cable to the motherboard.
