Step-by-step

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the side of the device to release the tray. Pull the tray completely out of the phone.

Heat the display edges
2 minApply heat around the perimeter of the screen for two minutes using a heat gun to soften the display adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the front glass screen. Press it down firmly to secure a tight seal.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap at the bottom edge. Insert a thin plastic pick into the gap.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
3 minCarefully slide the opening pick along all four sides of the screen to sever the adhesive holding it to the frame.

Lift the display assembly
2 minGently pivot the top edge of the display away from the body like a book cover, taking care not to strain the flex cable.

Unscrew the display cable bracket
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the single screw securing the metal shield over the display connector.

Disconnect the display cable
2 minUse a spudger to gently pop the display connector straight up from its socket on the motherboard. Set the display aside.

Disconnect the battery connector
1 minPry up the battery press connector from the motherboard to cut power before working on internal components.

Unscrew the lower housing bracket
3 minRemove the Phillips screws securing the lower speaker assembly and metal shield covering the daughterboard.

Lift out the speaker module
2 minInsert the flat end of a spudger beneath the lower speaker module and lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect the daughterboard flex
1 minPry up the ribbon cable connector that attaches the bottom daughterboard to the main system board.

Pry out the microphone daughterboard
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the daughterboard containing the primary microphone from the bottom of the frame.

Install the new microphone board
2 minPosition the new daughterboard with integrated microphone into the lower chassis and press it firmly into place.
After your Motorola G5S microphone repair
Power the G5S back on and test the microphone repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
