Step-by-step

Eject SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the tray on the left side of the phone. Push firmly to eject the tray and remove it.

Heat rear adhesive
3 minApply heat to the edges of the back cover using a heat gun or iOpener for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Slice perimeter adhesive
5 minAttach a suction cup to the lower back panel and pull up gently to create a gap. Insert an opening pick and slide it along the edges to slice through the tape.

Remove back cover
1 minCarefully lift the plastic rear cover away from the frame once all adhesive is fully separated.

Unscrew upper mid-frame
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the top motherboard bracket.

Remove motherboard shield
2 minGently insert a plastic opening tool under the edge of the plastic motherboard cover and lift it free from the phone.

Disconnect battery press connector
1 minPry up the battery flex cable connector from the logic board using a spudger to cut power to the device.

Disconnect ribbon cables
2 minUnplug the display flex cable, main interconnect cable, and RF antenna cables from the upper board.

Remove camera modules
2 minDisconnect the front-facing and rear camera press connectors, then lift the camera units out of their housings.

Extract logic board
2 minCarefully lift the logic board out from the top of the chassis using ESD-safe tweezers.

Inspect board under magnification
5 minExamine the logic board under a magnifying glass for signs of corrosion, cracked solder joints, or damaged surface-mount components.

Clean or solder board components
12 minApply flux and use a soldering iron or desoldering braid to reflow cracked joints or replace damaged passive components.

Reseat logic board into frame
2 minLower the repaired logic board back into the upper housing slot, taking care not to trap flex cables beneath it.

Reconnect camera modules and flexes
3 minReattach the front and rear cameras, display cable, main interconnect cable, and antenna cables to their sockets.

Reconnect battery flex cable
1 minSnap the battery press connector firmly back onto the logic board header.

Reattach upper motherboard shield
3 minPosition the plastic shield over the motherboard and reinsert all Phillips screws securely.

Seal rear cover
3 minApply new adhesive strips along the perimeter frame, align the rear cover, and press firmly along all edges to seal.
