Step-by-step

Power down the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Shut Down. Ensure the device is completely powered off before beginning.

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the left side of the phone. Push firmly to pop out the tray and set it aside.

Heat the rear panel edges
2 minApply heat to the outer edges of the rear panel using a heat gun on low for two minutes. This softens the internal adhesive seal.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back cover. Pull gently upward to create a slight gap between the cover and frame.

Insert an opening pick
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Carefully slice through the perimeter adhesive along the bottom edge.

Unclip the back cover
3 minSlide the pick around all side edges to disengage the internal plastic clips. Do not pull the cover away completely yet.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex
2 minTilt the back cover slightly to reveal the fingerprint reader ribbon cable. Use a spudger to carefully pop the connector off the motherboard.

Unscrew the lower speaker frame
2 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws securing the bottom speaker enclosure to the chassis. Store the screws in a secure location.

Remove the speaker housing
2 minInsert a flat plastic spudger beneath the lower speaker housing and lift it straight up out of the phone body.

Disconnect the main flex cable
1 minUse the edge of your spudger to lever up and disconnect the main interconnect flex cable from the daughterboard.

Disconnect the antenna coaxial cable
2 minUse precision tweezers to gently snap the tiny white antenna coaxial connector off the daughterboard corner.

Remove the microphone sub-board
2 minPry gently beneath the edge of the sub-board containing the microphone and USB port to lift it out of the housing.

Install the new microphone daughterboard
2 minAlign the replacement sub-board over the lower frame recess. Press down evenly until it seats firmly in place.

Reconnect the flex and antenna cables
2 minPress the main flex connector firmly onto the new board, then reattach the antenna coaxial cable connector.

Reinstall the speaker housing
2 minPosition the speaker module over the daughterboard assembly and press down gently. Tighten all Phillips #000 screws.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor ribbon
2 minHold the back cover near the frame and press the fingerprint sensor ribbon connector back onto the motherboard socket.

Seal the back cover
3 minAlign the rear cover with the phone frame and press firmly along all edges until all plastic clips snap tight. Reinsert the SIM tray.
