Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Make sure the phone is fully shut down before proceeding.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert the SIM eject tool into the small hole beside the SIM tray on the left frame. Push firmly to eject the tray, then slide it completely out.

Heat the rear cover
2 minApply heat along the edges of the back cover for 2 minutes using a heat gun or hairdryer to soften the adhesive.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPress a thin plastic opening pick into the seam between the rear cover and the frame near the SIM card slot.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick around all four sides of the phone to disengage the plastic clips and sever the adhesive.

Lift the rear cover
2 minCarefully tilt the back panel open from the right side. Do not pull it completely off yet, as the fingerprint sensor flex cable is still attached.

Unscrew the mainboard shield
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws holding down the plastic motherboard cover.

Remove the mainboard shield
2 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the upper plastic shield and gently lift it out of the frame.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from the motherboard.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minPry the fingerprint sensor ribbon connector off the motherboard and set the rear cover aside.

Unscrew the loudspeaker module
3 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws securing the bottom loudspeaker assembly over the sub-board.

Remove the loudspeaker module
2 minPry up the loudspeaker housing with a spudger and remove it from the lower frame.

Disconnect the main flex cable
1 minUse a spudger to disconnect the main ribbon cable from the top of the charging sub-board.

Disconnect the antenna cable
2 minGently pry the coaxial antenna cable connector up off its socket on the charging sub-board using tweezers.

Remove the sub-board screw
1 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw securing the charging sub-board to the phone frame.

Pry up the sub-board
2 minWedge a flat plastic opening tool beneath the sub-board and pry it out from the chassis.

Position the new sub-board
2 minPlace the replacement charging sub-board into the lower cavity of the frame and press it flat.

Secure the sub-board screw
1 minReinstall the single Phillips #00 screw to lock the sub-board into place.

Reconnect the antenna cable
2 minSnap the coaxial antenna connector precisely back onto its socket on the new sub-board.

Reconnect the main flex cable
1 minAlign and press down the main interconnect ribbon connector onto the sub-board socket until it clicks.

Reinstall the loudspeaker module
3 minPlace the loudspeaker housing over the sub-board and tighten all retaining Phillips screws.

Reconnect the fingerprint cable
2 minHold the rear cover near the frame and snap the fingerprint reader flex cable back onto the mainboard.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minPress the battery press-connector firmly back into its socket on the motherboard.

Reinstall the mainboard shield
3 minReplace the upper plastic cover and secure it using the original Phillips screws.

Seal the rear cover
2 minAlign the back cover with the frame and press firmly along the perimeter to snap the clips into place.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into the slot on the left side until sit flush against the frame.
