Step-by-step
- 1
Remove the SIM and microSD card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the hole on the side of the Moto G4 Plus to pop out the tray. Remove the card tray completely.

Pry off the rear panel
3 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch at the bottom edge near the micro-USB port. Carefully work around the perimeter to release the plastic clips securing the rear back cover.

Unscrew the internal midframe
5 minUse a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the 19 screws securing the internal midframe and camera bezel to the body. Keep track of these screws as they are uniform in size.

Remove the midframe assembly
2 minGently lift the plastic midframe off the frame starting from the bottom edge. Ensure no clips remain attached before fully removing it.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
2 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pop the battery connector straight up off the motherboard socket. This cuts power to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

Disconnect the display and digitizer cable
2 minLocate the display ZIF connector on the logic board and flip up the locking lever with tweezers. Gently slide the ribbon cable out of the socket.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable
2 minPry up the small press-fit fingerprint reader connector near the bottom left corner of the logic board.

Unplug the front-facing camera
2 minUse tweezers or a spudger to pop the front-facing camera connector off its terminal. Lift the camera module out of its recess.

Disconnect the antenna coaxial cable
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the head of the gold antenna coaxial cable straight up off the logic board connection.

Remove the logic board retaining screw
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the single grounding screw anchoring the top left corner of the logic board.

Lift out the logic board
3 minInsert a plastic opening tool beneath the bottom edge of the motherboard and carefully pry it out from the display housing.

Clean the board solder pads
8 minApply liquid flux to the target repair pads on the board and clean off degraded solder using desoldering braid and a heated soldering iron.

Solder replacement components onto the board
12 minPosition the new SMD component using fine tweezers under magnification, then solder each pin securely using a fine conical iron tip.

Clean flux residue from the board
3 minGently scrub the repaired board section with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab to clean off remaining flux.

Reinstall the logic board into the chassis
3 minAlign the top edge of the logic board with the housing cutouts and press down firmly until it rests flat in the frame.

Reconnect all internal flex cables
5 minReconnect the antenna, display, fingerprint sensor, and camera flex cables to their respective sockets on the board.

Reconnect the battery press connector
1 minPress the battery cable connector straight down into its motherboard socket until it clicks into place.

Reattach the midframe and rear panel
5 minPlace the midframe back over the phone, reinsert the 19 T3 screws, and snap the rear cover back onto the frame.
