Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to ensure the device is completely shut down.

Remove the back cover
1 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch at the bottom corner and pry the rear panel off the phone.

Remove the battery
1 minUse your fingernail or a spudger at the bottom recessed notch to lift and remove the battery.

Remove SIM and MicroSD cards
1 minSlide the SIM card and MicroSD card out from their designated slots above the battery bay.

Unscrew the midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 10 screws securing the plastic midframe to the phone chassis.

Pry off the plastic midframe
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick between the midframe and the front panel to unhook the plastic retaining clips.

Disconnect the display cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pop the display ribbon cable connector off the motherboard.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cable

Remove motherboard screws

Apply liquid flux to port joints
1 minApply a small drop of liquid flux across the micro-USB anchor legs and electrical contact pins.

Desolder the damaged micro-USB port
4 minHeat the solder anchor joints with a fine-tip soldering iron while gently lifting the old port away using tweezers.

Clean motherboard solder pads
3 minPlace desoldering wick over the remaining solder and press with your iron to absorb it. Wipe clean with isopropyl alcohol.

Position the new charging port
2 minAlign the anchor legs and micro-USB contact pins of the new port precisely onto the motherboard pads.

Solder the new port in place
5 minSolder the four mounting legs first to secure the port, then carefully solder each individual data pin to its pad.

Reinstall the motherboard
2 minSet the motherboard back into the phone body and tighten the single securing Phillips screw.

Reconnect display and antenna cables
2 minSnap the display connector onto its socket and press the antenna cable head back onto its motherboard terminal.

Reassemble the phone frame and battery
3 minSnap the midframe into place, fasten all 10 screws, reinsert the SIM/SD cards, and put the battery and back cover back on.
