Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM ejection tool into the tray hole on the left edge and push firmly to pop out the tray.

Heat the back cover
2 minApply heat to the rear cover edges with a heat gun or hairdryer for 2 minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPry a plastic opening pick into the seam between the back cover and the midframe near the bottom USB port.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the pick along the bottom, sides, and top edges to release the plastic clips and adhesive.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minSlightly lift the back cover and use a spudger to pop off the fingerprint reader flex cable connector.

Remove lower housing screws
3 minUnscrew the seven Phillips #00 screws securing the bottom speaker cover housing.

Remove the loudspeaker housing
2 minInsert a flat opening tool under the top edge of the speaker cover and lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse a nylon spudger to pry up the battery press-connector from the motherboard to cut power.

Extract the faulty loudspeaker
2 minUse precision tweezers to carefully lift the small loudspeaker module out of the lower speaker assembly.

Install the new loudspeaker
2 minSet the new speaker module into the housing recess, ensuring gold contacts align with the contact pads.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minAlign the battery flex connector over its motherboard socket and press down until it snaps into place.

Reinstall the loudspeaker housing
3 minPosition the speaker cover onto the lower frame and secure it with the seven Phillips #00 screws.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minAttach the fingerprint flex cable back onto its motherboard socket.

Reseal the back cover
2 minAlign the back cover with the frame and press firmly along all edges until the plastic clips snap secure.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minPush the SIM tray back into its slot on the side of the device until flush with the body.
