Step-by-step

Eject the SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM ejection tool into the hole on the left side of the device. Press firmly until the tray pops out, then pull it completely free.

Heat the Back Cover
2 minUse a heat gun or iOpener around the outer edges of the back cover for 2 minutes to soften the rear adhesive.

Attach a Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the back panel, just above the bottom edge.

Insert an Opening Pick
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame. Insert a plastic opening pick into the seam.

Slice the Rear Adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the phone to separate the adhesive securing the back cover.

Remove the Back Cover
1 minLift the rear panel off the phone body carefully and set it aside.

Remove the Motherboard Shield Screws
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper plastic motherboard cover.

Unclip the Motherboard Cover
1 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the plastic motherboard shield and gently pry it up to detach it from the phone.

Disconnect the Battery Cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard.

Disconnect the Interconnect Cable
1 minUse your spudger to disconnect the main extension flex cable running over the top of the battery.

Apply Isopropyl Alcohol
2 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the top and side edges of the battery to dissolve the adhesive.

Unpeel the Battery Pull Tab
1 minLocate the orange battery adhesive pull tab and gently unpeel its loose end from the side of the battery casing.

Extract the Battery
3 minPull the adhesive tab upward with steady, slow force while using a plastic opening card under the battery to ease it out.

Clean the Frame Recess
2 minWipe away old adhesive residue inside the battery well using a lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

Apply New Battery Adhesive
2 minPlace custom replacement adhesive strips onto the underside of your new replacement battery and peel off the protective backing.

Install the Replacement Battery
1 minLower the new battery into the housing, aligning it properly before pressing down firmly to set the adhesive.

Reconnect Internal Flex Cables
1 minSnap the main interconnect cable and the battery connector back into their motherboard sockets.

Reinstall the Motherboard Shield
2 minAlign the plastic cover over the motherboard and press down until it snaps into place, then secure all retained screws.

Reattach the Back Cover
2 minApply fresh perimeter adhesive tape to the rear housing, then press the back cover firmly onto the phone frame.
After your Motorola G31 battery replacement
Power the G31 back on and test the battery replacement function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
