Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the upper left side of the frame and press firmly to eject the tray.

Warm the back cover
2 minUse a heat gun on low heat to warm the outer edges of the rear panel for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Apply suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower portion of the back panel near the charging port.

Slice the adhesive seal
3 minPull up gently on the suction cup and insert a plastic opening pick into the gap, sliding it along the perimeter to slice the tape.

Lift off the back cover
1 minCarefully lift the rear panel away from the frame once all edges are free.

Unscrew the midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the protective plastic midframe panel.

Unclip the midframe
2 minInsert the flat end of a spudger around the midframe border to unsnap the plastic clips and remove the cover.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from the motherboard using a plastic spudger to prevent electrical shorts.

Disconnect the volume flex cable
1 minUse tweezers or a spudger to disconnect the volume button flex connector from the motherboard socket.

Peel up the volume flex cable
2 minSlide a flat spudger under the volume button flex cable and peel it off the interior side frame.

Remove physical volume keys
1 minGently press the physical volume buttons inward from the exterior frame to remove them from their housing.

Insert new volume keys
1 minPosition the new physical volume buttons into the frame cutout from the inside.

Adhere the volume flex cable
2 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable against the inner frame wall and press firmly to set the adhesive.

Reconnect the volume flex connector
1 minAlign and press the volume cable connector straight down into its motherboard socket until it clicks.

Reconnect the battery
1 minPress the battery cable press connector back onto its terminal on the motherboard.

Fasten the midframe
3 minSnap the plastic midframe back onto the housing and tighten all Phillips screws.

Reseal the back cover
2 minApply fresh adhesive strips to the edges of the chassis, align the back cover, and press firmly along the borders to seal.
