Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to shut down the phone completely.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the hole beside the SIM card tray on the left edge to pop it out.

Heat the back cover
2 minApply a heat gun set to low around the edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower back cover and pull upward firmly to create a slight gap at the bottom seam.

Insert opening pick
2 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup to breach the adhesive seal.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minGuide the plastic pick along the outer edges of the rear cover to separate all surrounding adhesive strips.

Lift the rear cover
2 minCarefully tilt open the rear cover from the right edge, taking care not to stretch the connected fingerprint flex cable.

Unscrew the upper shield
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the plastic motherboard protective cover.

Remove upper bracket
2 minGently pry up and remove the plastic motherboard cover using a spudger.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket to isolate power.

Disconnect fingerprint cable
2 minPry up the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector from the board and set the rear cover aside.

Disconnect display flex cable
2 minUse your spudger to disconnect the main display connector from the bottom portion of the logic board.

Disconnect sub-board flex cable
2 minPry up the interconnect flex cable that links the logic board to the lower charging port sub-board.

Unplug antenna cables
2 minUse fine tweezers to gently lift the coaxial antenna cable heads straight off their press connectors.

Disconnect camera modules
3 minUnplug the front-facing camera and rear camera flex connectors from the top of the logic board.

Remove logic board screws
2 minUnscrew any remaining Phillips screws securing the logic board directly to the inner metal frame.

Remove the logic board
3 minInsert a spudger under the bottom corner of the mainboard and carefully lift it out of the chassis.

Inspect and transfer components
5 minInspect the original board under magnification for visible shorts, or transfer cameras to the replacement logic board.
